The TDI’s are definitely much more reliable than their gas variables, and generally more reliable than most gas cars I’d say. But the stuff that do fail tend to be pricy.
Withthe 1.9 TDI engine, the timing belt change intervals are substantially different and range from 60,000 km to 120,000 km, depending on the engine generation. When buying a car with a 1.9 TDI engine, you should immediately replace the timing belt. 6. Problem With Floating Flywheel.
Currentlydoing 25 miles each way every day so at the moment a tdi seems to make sense. Ive seen so many 1.6 tdi for sale on 13 plate and they look quite good value. Just cannot seem to make up my mind. Did think about 1.2 tsi briefly but many people recommend putting in super unleaded in so does not work out much cheaper than diesel.
Ifyou want economy, it’s hard to beat the 1.9. If you want refinement and sub-50 mpg, get the 2.0. I drove 140K miles in my Vento 1.9 TDI, and it returned 55mpg over this
