George R.R. Martin says he's "sorry for" people who only care about The Winds Of Winter. They have to be done together and released separately so he doesn’t have to deal with backlash. He can release Winter and basically walk away from the series, allowing the publisher to delay the finale for a year or two.
I’ll buy The Winds of Winter when it comes out, if it ever does. But it won’t be because I “forgive,” Martin. It’ll be because I expect to enjoy reading it. That’s my only relationship with Martin: I’ll pay money for books in this series because I like them, not because he and I have some special trust relationship. James SA Corey (writers Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), who had previously worked with GRRM in certain capacities, finished a 9 book series and 5 novellas and 2 short stories between A Dance with Dragons release and George Martin lost interest in finishing it, Benioff and Weiss lost interest in producing it, so they made a horrible rush job ending and dumped it. The creative end abandoned it, so why do the fans still care? Time to admit that no one on that end gives a fig for what you think. It should be obvious by now. 1. The great and slow writer George RR Martin once said in an interview that tolken's main interest, his magnum opus, was The Silmarillion, and he was correct. BUT! Tolkien finished the lord of the rings trilogy first which is what got his fans to be interested in The Silmarillion. GRRM seems to think a vast number of his fans will be interested
